Hemp protein

Hemp protein is the protein found in the seeds of hemp. There are two different types of hemp protein in hemp – edestin and albumin – which constitute hemp protein together. It might easily be the best plant-based protein, thanks to its rich content of fibre, amino acids, vitamins and minerals, and all their beneficial effects.

What is Hemp Protein and Where Does It Come from?

This vegan hemp protein powder is made by grinding the seeds of hemp mechanically without the use of heat or chemicals.

Hemp, sometimes called technical hemp, is a specific cannabis variant called Cannabis sativa. This strain contains very little to no THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is probably the most famous cannabinoid, known for its psychoactive properties.

The biggest concentration of THC is found in marihuana, a different variety of cannabis. Hemp is grown and processed for medical purposes, and the number of hemp and CBD products to choose from today is almost infinite. CBD is the other famous cannabinoid, which is not, unlike THC, psychotropic, and is used for its excellent health benefits.

The fact that hemp protein comes from the Cannabis sativa strain means that it contains no THC and is thus free of any mind-altering effects. Hemp protein is safe, legal and healthy!

The Remarkable Richness of Nutrients in Hemp Seeds

Hemp protein is unique because it contains all 23 amino acids that occur in nature. Nine of those are the essential amino acids that are vital for the human body, The body, however, cannot produce them itself and so we have to obtain them from different sources. The omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids are contained in a ratio perfectly balanced for our body. The 3:1 ratio of omega 3 and omega 6 is regarded by scientists as the golden ratio. A less balanced ratio, such as the 15:1 ratio very common in people’s diets, is likely to contribute to the development of many chronic diseases, such as heart disease or cancer.

Hemp also contains gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) which is very healthy but very scarce. It is a particular form of metabolized omega 6.

Hemp protein is exceptionally high in fibre. Other plant-based proteins like soy, rice or pea contain much lower amounts of fibre as they are highly refined.

It is very rich in minerals too, most importantly phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, iron, manganese, zinc and copper. Vitamins are abundant in hemp with the presence of vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, C, D and E.

Hemp protein contains antioxidants that prevent oxidative stress, chlorophyll which has antibacterial properties, and phytosterols which help to maintain healthy levels of cholesterol.

The Benefits of Consuming Hemp Seed Protein

Adding hemp protein to your regular diet has many more benefits other than the fact that it boosts your protein intake, which is vital for the whole of human body and its metabolism.

Hemp is known and frequently used for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, pain-relieving and immunity-supporting effects. Some of the positive impacts of consuming hemp protein may be improving fatigue or reducing oxidative stress, which is the imbalance between antioxidants and free radicals in the human body that can have harmful and damaging effects on cells and tissue, and even cause chronic diseases.

Hemp protein is less processed than other kinds of proteins from different sources and it is easily digestible; its digestibility rate is more than 90%.

Importantly, it is a great alternative for animal protein. Hemp protein is suitable for vegetarians, vegans and those who are on a raw food diet, as well as those with intolerance towards other proteins, lactose, or gluten.

Hemp protein is high in calories, which will benefit those aiming to gain weight.

Amino Acids

Amino acids and proteins are the essential compounds constituting the human body.

Essential unsaturated fats are very beneficial for the heart, because they can help regulate the unbalanced and unhealthy ratio of amino acids in our body. Here are some of their greatest benefits:

  • a positive effect in the production of serotonin which regulates our mood and sleep and reduces depression
  • improving athletic performance and supporting muscle recovery, meaning the muscles hurt less and are sooner ready to be used again
  • preventing muscle atrophy
  • reducing body fat percentage

Foods rich in GLA (gamma-linoleic acid), like hemp, have shown to be beneficial in treating and preventing many diseases:

  • Diabetes
  • Heart diseases and high blood pressure
  • ADHD
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Osteoporosis
  • PMS
  • Skin allergies
  • Obesity

A fibre-rich diet shows many positive effects on health too, such as maintaining a balanced level of blood glucose and a healthy gut microbiome, preventing constipation as well as reducing the danger of bowel cancer.

By regulating blood sugar, the consumption of fibre prevents energy crashes and sugar cravings. This means you will be less likely to lust after unhealthy sweets!

Hemp Protein Side Effects

Due to its rich fibre content, hemp protein may provoke diarrhoea or bloat. However, this only happens when consumed in immoderate amounts.

How to Use Hemp Seed Protein Powder?

You can add hemp protein to almost any dish, as long as you do not heat it up to more than 40°C. Higher temperatures would destroy the nutritional value and digestibility of hemp protein.

Hemp protein powder makes a great addition to smoothies, milkshakes, vegetable juice, oatmeal, ice cream, spreads or soups.

Please remember that hemp protein should be kept in a fridge because of its fat content.

Whether you choose our hemp powder to make an energizing hemp protein smoothie or a nutritious oatmeal, or whether you simply enjoy our raw hemp protein bar, you will be giving your body a hearty dose of love!

  • Hemp protein in sport

Sport is a lifestyle, relaxation and entertainment for me. Every day, i mix hemp protein with half a banana and rice or oatmeal milk. I feel that it supplies my body not only with the energy and the necessary substances, but it also does not burden it with unnecessary digestion after training and speeds up regeneration.

  • I take hemp protein every day

I have already tried a lot of Cannadorra products and I am satisfied with them. I regularly use protein from hemp, which I add to morning mash or protein bars of my own production. CBD oil helps me improve sleep.
