HHC is a relative of THC. It has almost the same effect but is undetectable in drug tests. It also occurs naturally in small quantities in CBD hemp. However, there is so little of it in the hemp plant that it has to be obtained chemically. We will tell you what HHC is, its effects, and its uses.

What are the effects of HHC?

The effects of HHC are very similar to those of THC. Visual and auditory perception is altered, and euphoria, relaxation, and a stimulating effect (the exact opposite of the effects of CBD, which is not psychoactive). Indirect references also mention acute pain relief (CBD has been proven to have a positive effect on pain).

Because HHC is so similar to THC, it can have many of the effects of THC, but these have not yet been studied in detail.

However, a significant difference from THC is that HHC is not illegal and is not detectable in drug tests.

HHC, however, is an unexplored

Unlike CBD, HHC has no confirmed effects - neither positive nor negative, and it has not yet been established what HHC does to the human body with long-term use.

This article is for informational purposes only, Cannadorra, as a verified manufacturer and retailer of hemp products since 2010, does not recommend the use of products with HHC, precisely because of the lack of information and the effects on human health.

How is HHC produced?

HHC is found in the hemp plant, but it is a very small part, so most HHC is produced synthetically in the lab.

The process of producing HHC by hydrogenation

HHC was discovered in the 1940s by chemist Roger Adams when he created HHC by adding hydrogen to the THC molecule and changing its physical properties. Hydrogenation is the name given to this process, which was first described in a 1947 patent document.

Hydrogenation changes the structure of delta-9 THC by replacing the double bond with two hydrogen atoms, changing its molecular weight as well as making it more stable. According to Mark Schialdone, chemist and chief scientist at BR Brands, hydrogenation increases "stability and resistance to thermo-oxidative degradation" - meaning that HHC has a longer shelf life and is less likely to break down when exposed to ultraviolet light and heat.

The use of HHC

HHC is most commonly used in the form of vaping (Vape). However, other types of products with HHC are already available on the market and of course HHC oils (which are similar to oils with CBD).

What is HHC vape?

HHC vape stands for HHC vaping and they exist in different forms from liquids to colours. The onset of the vaping effect takes about 5 minutes.

Does HHC have side effects?

Much of the information available on HHC is speculative. Preliminary studies so far show that HHC has a safety profile comparable to THC, and the side effects reported are similar to those of high-dose THC.

Potential side effects of HHC include:

  • restlessness
  • dizziness
  • dry mouth
  • increased appetite
  • insomnia
  • paranoia
  • rapid heartbeat
  • red eyes

Legality of HHC

Many sellers claim that this cannabinoid is legal because of its natural origin and no law expressly prohibits it, the truth is somewhere in the middle. It is not officially permitted by anyone.

We also noted at the beginning of this article that it does occur in nature, but in very small quantities, so various chemical processes are required to obtain it.

The DEA issued an interim rule to clarify regulatory controls on hemp and its components as part of the 2018 Farm Bill. It ruled that "all synthetically derived tetrahydrocannabinols remain Schedule I controlled substances", so the debate on the legality of HHC has largely been about whether it is a natural or synthetic compound.

Until there is an official position on the legality of HHC, it is impossible to say for sure whether it is legal or not, and one can only use it at one's own risk.

Will an HHC drug test show up?

The standard 12-panel drug test will not detect HHC (like CBD will not be detected in drug test).

This is positive information for many people because other alternatives to THC, such as delta 8 and delta 10 THC, are detectable in urine or blood for THC when sufficiently used.

Of course, this is currently an unofficial statement, although preliminary studies show that HHC is not metabolised to 11-hydroxy-THC, which is the main metabolite of THC that can give a positive result.

Choose proven oils with proven effects

If HHC is new to you and you're not sure if you want to take the risk, rely on proven products - those that contain CBD or CBG.

For these products, you can be sure that they are legal dietary supplements with proven effects: reviews and experiences with CBD oil from Cannadorra.

Careful with dogs, we recommend giving only CBD oils for dogs, we strongly recommend not experimenting with HHC...
