The amendment to the Act on the Legalization of CBD was approved. Products with a THC content of less than 0.5% will no longer be considered as pharmaceuticals. They will, therefore, be freely available, and their sale will not be considered illegal in Italy.

An amendment to the law has been approved to regulate the sale of hemp-based products with a THC content of less than 0.5%. These products are no longer considered as drugs.

"This sector is finally entitled to operate," - continues Marola. “The rule governs both the Cannabis Act and the Narcotic Drugs Act. Marketing is now clearly allowed”.

"They treated us like drug dealers," - Marola says. “So many companies have closed down, a supply chain has been brought to their knees, employing more than 10,000 people. We continued as activists to achieve a change in the law. And today we won, Italy will finally connect with the global market for these products”.

Legislation, which must be finally adopted in conjunction with the economic maneuver by 2020, will finally clarify the limits of the active substance under which the product cannot be considered a narcotic and definitively establish the lawfulness of the sale. These products will be subject to a tax of EUR 12 per thousand kilograms of hemp biomass.

Coldiretti, the Italian Agricultural Association, welcomed Parliament's move that the cannabis area in Italy grew from 400 hectares in 2013 to 4,000 hectares last year. 

Now, products with CBD in Italy will be legal and actually authorized! And everyone hopes that Italy will set an example for other countries where they are still struggling to legalize CBD.
