Are you worried that CBD oil and generally CBD might be addictive? Whether or not CBD is addictive is the most common question for users of these products and those who just want to start using. It is true that marihuana addiction (THC) exists. But what about CBD oil? It's also from hemp but ... In short, no. CBD oil is not addictive. Here's the explanation.
What is actually drug addiction?
Addiction is a chronic condition that forces a person to look for a substance, regardless of whether it has harmful consequences. Whether the substance is addictive depends on whether it disrupts the way nerve cells in the brain send, receive and process information. Almost all addictive substances focus on the brain's dopamine system. Dopamine is also called "the hormone of happiness".
Over time, the regular use of the substance causes the brain to adapt to these dopamine deliveries by producing less dopamine. This forces a person to regularly take drugs, sugar, fats, alcohol, cigarettes ... to complement the dopamine level again and to rest.

CBD oil does not cause addiction
To understand why CBD is not addictive oil, we need to know what CBD oil contains. From hemp (Cannabis sativa - from EU-certified varieties of technical cannabis), CBD cannabidiol is extracted, a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that dissolves in cannabis seed oil.
CBD drops also contain other valuable substances, such as omega-3 fatty acids, terpenes, vitamins, chlorophyll, amino acids and trace amounts of more than 85 other cannabinoids. However, the quality and variety of composition depending on the method of extraction. For a complete cocktail of functional substances and an effect, alcohol extraction is appropriate.
CBD vs. THC - their effect on addiction
Unlike marihuana, CBD oil contains only traces of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), a psychoactive cannabinoid that can cause addiction and euphoric states. THC directly binds to cannabinoid 1 (CB1) receptors in the brain. It has been found that CB1 receptor activation affects the release of the "happiness hormone", which explains why THC can be addictive.
Example: While marijuana typically contains THC levels ranging from 10% to 30%, CBD oil obtained from hemp does not usually have more than 0.2% THC - 33 times less than the least powerful marijuana.
The CBD even serves as the "antagonist" of CB1 receptors. This means that CBD actually blocks the binding of THC to the cannabinoid receptors, which makes its effects more difficult. CBD, therefore, protects against the negative effects of THC.

CBD is not addictive, but can I overdose?
The use of Cannabidiol product is considered safe and nontoxic, even in larger quantities. The side effects that can occur with a large dose of CBD are minimal and often quickly disappear. These are, for example, dry mouth, low blood pressure, and drowsiness. There are no reported cases of overdose of CBD that would cause serious health consequences.
In 2017, the World Health Organization, the United Nations Agency for Public Health, said the CBD is not addictive and writes: "The CBD has no effects that could lead to addiction. The CBD is well tolerated and safe for human consumption."
Even large doses of CBD have been found safe. In 2011, scientists who studied human CBD came to the conclusion that a regular dose of a high dose of up to 1500 mg of CBD per day was well-tolerated.
Although there are no known serious side effects when taking a large amount of CBD, it is recommended to correctly dose CBD - start with a low dose and gradually increase CBD intake, according to your good feeling.
