Cannabinoids are a group of substances found only in hemp. On the contrary, a cannabinoid system, a system using these substances, is found in all higher animal species where it affects a variety of life functions.
Cannabinoids include, among others, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD (cannabidiol), CBN (cannabinol) and CBC (cannabichromene). THC is the main psychoactive substance found in hemp. However, for technical hemp, this substance almost does not occur, its content is max. 0.2% according to EU standards.
Why is it so important?
Cannabinoid receptors (first type) are mainly found in the central nervous system and are therefore used to treat various nervous disorders and neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease.
However, cannabinoid receptors (second type) can also be found in other systems such as immune, digestive or reproductive systems, including bones, skin, arteries, lungs, hormonal glands, eyes and other body parts.
It is thought that cannabinoids could be used in the treatment of other diseases such as diabetes, psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis, and could be useful to help in the treatment of cancer, intestinal diseases or chronic pain. Our body produces substances, called endocannabinoids, that bind to and through the cannabinoid receptors. These endocannabinoids have a different chemical composition than cannabinoids contained in hemp, but their effects are very similar, so hemp can be used as a source of these substances necessary for the functioning of the human organism.
Cannabinoids are very important for the functioning and development of the human organism and are therefore also included in breast milk. Apart from the fact that cannabis contains a whole range of substances beneficial to human organisms, it also contains cannabinoids which, among other things, it protects cells and the entire nervous system, promotes immunity, relieves pain, and should, therefore, become a regular part of our diet.
