Hemp is one of the most nutritious foods in the world, but it is also easily digestible. It is a source of protein, essential amino acids and essential fatty acids. It is the only food that supplies all the necessary nutrients - the only food that is sufficient for the human body and does not need to be replenished with another source of nutrition. However, the Buddha has allegedly only eaten hemp seeds.

Almost half of the hemp seeds are fats, one third – proteins, the rest are mainly carbohydrates and fiber.

Essential amino acids

Hemp contains all 10 known essential amino acids that our body cannot produce and must be supplied in food. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein, are essential for building muscle tissue and are essential for maintaining a healthy immune system.

Essential fatty acids

Hemp contains more than 80% essential fatty acids, which is most compared to all other oils. Essential fatty acids cannot be produced in the human body and must be consumed through the diet as well as essential amino acids.

Hemp seed contains, among other things, omega-6 and omega-3 essential fatty acids, which are the only ones in hemp, represented in the ideal ratio for the human body. These two acids are essential for proper brain development and functioning, reproductive systems and metabolism.

Vitamins and minerals

Hemp seed is also a source of a variety of vitamins, such as E, B1, B2, B6, and minerals. It contains magnesium, potassium, calcium, zinc or iron.

Let’s talk about hemp food.

Hemp food – food for every day?

Hemp seeds is a hemp fruit - up to half a centimeter-sized seed, consists of a fibrous husk and an oily core. It is characterized mainly by its uniquely balanced and complex representation of unsaturated fatty acids. The omega-3 essential linoleic acid and the omega-6 linoleic acid ratio is closest to the human body's own (1: 3) ratio and ensures proper metabolism.

Hemp oil also contains the rare omega-6 gamma-linoleic acid responsible, among other things, for its beneficial effects on the skin. In addition to valuable fats, we find unique protein in the seed: edestin, albumin and other well digested essential fatty acids (EMK). Furthermore, carbohydrates, mainly in the form of fiber, a wide range of vitamins B1, B2, B6, C, and E as well as minerals, water, ash, chlorophyll, lecithin, phytin and gamma-linolenic acid with the strong bactericidal effect.

A healthy diet, fresh diet

The rule that the healthiest foods are fresh or only slightly cooked is doubly true for hemp. To maintain the quality of essential fatty acids, neither seed nor oil should be heated to more than 45 ° C. Pressed oil must be protected not only from heat but also from air and light. Acid oxidation causes rancidity and makes it inedible. So how do we best deal with cannabis? Here are some tips from my own kitchen:

  • Whole hemp seeds in the kitchen

Whole seeds are a good part of a healthy breakfast. Unprepared raw seeds sprinkled on smeared bread or muesli sprouted on the softness and taste. It also softens the skin a little stronger, so I add it to already cooked, still warm pasta, rice or sauces. The proven recipe is the seeds ground on a poppy or meat grinder.

  • Hulled hemp seed in the kitchen

A separate chapter is the peeled seeds, hence peeled. They can be added almost to everything (or eat themselves as nuts), mixed with water to create delicious milk (with a refreshing cocktail with fruit), my favorite combination is a fruit salad covered with peeled seeds and lemon.

  • Hemp oil in the kitchen

Hemp seed oil is amazing itself with pastries, salads, and spreads. Rancid quickly, so it is recommended to keep it cool and use it within half a year of opening the bottle.

  • Hemp flour

Flour is added to bakery products (10-15%, whole seeds can be added) or sauces.

  • Roasted hemp seeds

Roasted hemp seeds flavored with salt or spicy can also be recommended as a "healthy" alternative to chips. However, unsaturated fatty acids and other valuable vintages are lost by roasting (similar to baking).
