For those who like to smoke cannabis, an interesting opportunity opens up - to combine their passion with something useful.
The research initiative (Forschungsinitiative) is currently looking for 25,000 recreational cannabis users, who want to participate in research and want to use cannabis for a good cause in the next few years - for science.
The authors of the Cannabisconsum project hope that they will be able to investigate and describe the long-term effects of recreational cannabis consumption on healthy adult consumers. Research coordinator Marko Dörre said:
"In Germany, several million people regularly get intoxicated with cannabis. It is time that science is more intensively engaged in leisure-time consumption."
Research participants must be at least 18 years old, have no mental illness or mental problems (including addictions) and cannot be the first-time users of cannabis. Those who meet the requirements and will be involved in the research, shall receive 30 grams of cannabis per month from scientists.
There is about two thousand people registered so far.
